Hideaway 9

Do you prefer staying in a hotel? Are you travelling in a larger group and all of you want to have their own rooms with private facilities? Or is your company looking for a nice place to do a few days of team building? We heartily recommend a stay in this unique hotel.

This hotel is located about 15 kilometers from the city of Rovaniemi, nicely positioned on the banks of the Kemijoki River. Here you find yourself far enough away from all the hustle and bustle around Santa Claus to enjoy the peace and quiet, but still all of this is within easy reach. If you prefer not to rent a car, you can easily get to Rovaniemi city center and Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle by public transportation. The bus stop is almost at your doorstep.

The exterior of this white, industrial building may appear less attractive at first glance. However, it is precisely these clean lines, the tall windows, the historical value and the personal approach that make this hotel so special. From a former Russian foresters’ school in the early 1900s to a hospital during the war, this building was transformed into a unique hotel in 2018. Many buildings in Rovaniemi were destroyed during the war, but this building has been spared. Many original details have been preserved during the renovation, which gives the hotel its charm – without making any concessions to modern comfort.

Upon entering the reception/lounge area, you will immediately notice the original floor, couches and the large fireplace. The 26 modern Scandinavian-style rooms are located on the ground floor, first and second floor. There is no elevator. You get to the higher floors via the original, wide stairwell, where thousands of students and hospital staff have left their footprints on the large, stone steps. The rooms have high ceilings with large windows and are comfortably furnished with ensuite bathrooms with shower and toilet. The suites are more spacious and have an additional kitchenette. With the option of adding two extra beds, these are also suitable for a family. In addition to breakfast, dinner is also served in the restaurant where the chefs use local products as much as possible.

A Finnish hotel is not complete without sauna. In addition to the electric sauna in the building, you can also book the ‘Beach Sauna’ (a wood-heated sauna located on the river bank) with hot tub for private use.

This hotel offers a comfortable base from which you can do activities starting directly from the hotel. In summer, you can relax on the beach at the river side or test your luck on fishing, while in winter you can go exploring on snowshoes or go out on a snowmobile safari. Not to forget to mention the option of going on safari with the neighboring huskies!
